HANAC Legal Immigrant Services
HANAC operates legal immigrant programs in two sites, one in Astoria, Queens and the other in the Harlem section of Manhattan. These programs offer immigrants residing in New York City a range of services including legal assistance, immigration application assistance, translation services, and workshops to assist immigrants in adjusting to and succeeding in their lives as new arrivals to America.
The programs focus on educating immigrants about their rights and responsibilities, as well as assisting them with all situations related to their immigration status, and the procedures necessary to become citizens. Those situations include applying for permanent residency, asylum, and citizenship.
Assistance is provided in filling out required forms and providing supporting documentation when applying for permanent residency, asylum, and citizenship.
It also includes follow-up services to ensure proper processing of applications, along with advocacy and legal assistance if needed.
At both sites, the staff includes a social worker who meets with clients and addresses social service needs directly or through referrals, as well as paralegals and a staff attorney who specialize in immigration law and who provide legal assistance including advocacy and representation in court. We have staff that is bilingual in Greek and Spanish.
For DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) contact Stephanie Fernandez at [email protected]. HANAC will pay the $465 USCIS application fee.
