HANAC Prevention & Counseling Program
The HANAC Prevention and Counseling Program is a school-based program located in the St. Demetrios school in Queens.
The HANAC Prevention and Counseling Program is a school-based program located in the Queens based Greek-American Parochial schools of St. Demetrios Middle School and High School and St. Catherine’s K through 5th grade classes.
With the cooperation of the school administration and teachers, students who are identified as “in need” are referred to our prevention counselor who coordinates services with the school guidance counselor and then schedules individual counseling sessions with the student. All counseling services are provided on the school site. The program has a caseload of 30 students who are seen throughout the school year.
In addition to counseling, HANAC also offers presentations to school staff, parents, students and community members of the respective schools. Presentations cover topics that are related to drugs, alcohol, chemical dependence, tobacco and other related areas of interest.
This program is funded by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
